San Jose, California (PRWEB) January 13, 2012

Follow us on LinkedIn The global economic downturn, increasing unemployment rates, falling disposable incomes, rising cost of energy and food, and loss of consumer confidence significantly lowered the overall expenditure on footwear products. While sales in the developed countries registered a decline, developing countries witnessed a considerable slow down in sales. The number of shoe pairs sold through retail outlets registered a sharp decline during 2008, with segments such as athletic shoes accounting for a bulk of the losses. The recession led consumers to opt for simplistic lifestyles, which led to increased demand for products offering value for money as well as products with bargains or discounts. Frugality led consumers to curb spending on high-end, premium and expensive brands suffered significant revenue losses, which contributed to increased sales of private label and value brands. Even among high net worth consumer category, spending levels were significantly scaled down, as a result of which expenditure on luxury shoe products witnessed fell sharply.

Though the global economy is on the road to recovery, consumers are likely to continue adopting cautious approach. Changing perceptions about luxury, lesser frequency of purchases, and increased emphasis on product cost and features are expected to influence consumers purchasing decision in the footwear market. As a result, manufacturers are focusing efforts on offering value products, transforming marketing initiatives, and redefining luxury and customized products. In order to deal with intense competition from various brands, manufacturers are focusing efforts on offering products at highly competitive prices without diluting the brand identity.

The United States and Europe, the worst hit by the economic recession, account for a predominant share of the revenues in the global footwear market. In the post recession scenario, growth would be driven by increasing consumption in emerging economies, and the rising demand for luxury goods in these countries. China represents the single largest producer in the global footwear market. The countrys predominance in footwear production is primarily attributed to low labor costs and manpower availability. India is another leading producer, which leverages strengths in producing medium size orders of mid-range leather footwear. Other Asian countries such as Indonesia, Vietnam, Pakistan, and Thailand rank among the top 10 global producers in the footwear industry. Brazil, Mexico, Turkey and Italy are significant contributors to global footwear production.

In recent years, the demand for athletic footwear has risen driven by the growing consumer desire for maintaining active lifestyles. From golfing to running, sports have become highly intertwined with consumers day-to-day lifestyles and are not considered just recreation. Growing awareness about healthy lifestyles among the ageing and the youngsters is bolstering growth. Increased participation in walking, snowboarding and biking activities has resulted in these categories dominating the product mix at various outlets. Customer taste and preferences are also vital factors for sustaining demand for athletic shoes. Rapidly transforming fashion trends are compelling shoe manufacturers to constantly introduce superior and path-breaking products to attract consumers. A major trend in the footwear industry has been the launch of toning shoes, a fitness footwear range that has gained enormous popularity among women. Major global and regional sporting events such as the 2010 Football World Cup, 2012 Olympic Games in London and the 2012 European Football Tournament in Ukraine and Poland are expected to enhance the demand for sports footwear, particularly for football boots.

Competition in the global athletic footwear market is intense among Nike, Puma AG, Adidas AG, and Asics Corporation. Excluding the top players, the remaining market is primarily comprised of few players with limited revenue generation capabilities, majority of whom operate in niche market segments. The leaders have built up a strong buttress of technological sophistication and global production efficiencies that virtually outdistance competition from small and mid-sized players.

Marie Judith Bijoux Leist Wins First Place in Atlanta Amateur Filmmaking Competition

without comments

San Diego, California (PRWEB) January 02, 2012

The competition started back in September when potential film makers were asked to submit short films between fifteen and twenty-five minutes long. The competition was specifically for amateur film makers in the Southern California area. Judges praised the diverse selection of films that were entered. The entrants came from all walks of life, from students to office workers to pensioners. The winner, Marie Judith Bijoux Leist, is a thirty-two year old recruitment consultant with no prior training or experience in the film industry.

Judges commented on the professionalism and high quality of the entered films, saying that they were very pleasantly surprised and that there is a lot of untapped talent out there. The winning film by Marie Judith Bijoux Leist was about a young man coming to terms with the tragic loss of his wife. Judith Leist says she was inspired by a close friend who recently dealt with the passing of her husband.

The short twenty-four minute film poignantly, albeit briefly, manages to explore the range of emotions experienced by someone who is grieving. Without falling into the usual clich?s or exploiting the extreme emotions of the subject matter, Judith’s film succeeded in portraying a realistic and inspirational journey of a man learning to come to terms with the death of a loved one.

First prize was $ 10,000 and the next five runners up each received $ 2,000. The prizes were generously sponsored by local businesses. When asked what she will do with her prize money, Marie Judith Bijoux Leist said, “I havent really thought too much about it yet, I’m just so pleased to win. It’s a huge honor and it has really made me rethink my career path. I think I would like to put the money towards furthering a career in film-making. Perhaps it will go towards a course on film making, or I might buy a really good camera. My ideal job would to be behind the camera”.

About Marie Judith Bijoux Leist

Marie Judith Bijoux Leist was born and raised in Atlanta. After finishing high school she worked her way up in administrational roles in local offices before becoming a recruitment consultant in 2008. She travelled for over a year around South East Asia, including Vietnam, Thailand, Laos and Cambodia, before going to Australia where she was a nanny for 10 months. Marie Judith Bijoux Leist lists tennis, yoga and watching films as her favorite hobbies. She is also an avid environmentalist and a member of a local conservationist society. Judith states “it is the responsibility of each and every one of us to do our bit to look after the environment and preserve our local natural areas”.

Author Bill Bowles New Novel Explores Life of a Soldier in War and Peace

without comments

MARIETTA, Ga. (PRWEB) December 28, 2011

In his new novel Covert Loves (published by iUniverse), author and veteran Bill Bowles offers a story that chronicles the devastating effects of war, and how its aftermath remains long after the firing guns and falling bombs are silent.

Ken Fisher joined the army after World War II ended. He had always wanted to travel and see the world, but postwar Germany is nothing like what he expected. Instead of beautiful landscapes and thankful citizens, Ken finds gritty despair and racism.

Amid the chaos, Ken falls in love with a charming German girl named Elona, but love isnt simple after war, especially when Ken is an outsider. When Elona and Ken decide to get married, their application for a marriage license reveals dark, terrible secrets, bringing their love into question. Ken leaves Germany and love behind and becomes a Green Beret. He serves several tours and gains knowledge of unconventional warfare in South Vietnam, where he learns to be a true soldier.

At this point, Kens military career could have ended. He could have continued teaching ROTC kids and living a peaceful, happy existence. Instead, he is sent to the Korean Demilitarized Zone, where he is given a final assignment that will test his beliefs and his oaths. When faced with this assignment, Ken must make a life-changing choice between accepting Army orders and upholding his own beliefs in right and wrong.

This chronicle of a young soldiers life, Bowles says, presents readers with a challenge: what would they do, in Fishers place? Could they have made the right decision and lived with the consequences?

About the Author

Later, he earned a masters degree and worked for the Defense Department and participated in Operation Desert Storm. He currently lives in Atlanta, Georgia.

New Book Reveals the Man-Making Experiences of an Aussie Kid

without comments

AUSTRALIA (PRWEB) December 13, 2011

Frederick C. Smith defines the seamier side of the modern Australian heart in Life. This book is a mans story and also a story that is peculiar to Australia. He has gone through excessive abuse through public school, civilian work and the Australian Defence Force (ADF). Describing the authors process that has taken years before it yielded understanding and the start of adjustment into a normal life, the book lets readers in on the hard-won wisdom of Fredericks experience.

The author offers his unique insight into physical and mental abuse that seems to be enshrined in the level of society that he lives in. Although a young country, in the 80s Australia called itself the lucky country. With the luck of the Outback, the country had attained a level of prosperity through hard work and perseverance. For him, there were no nifty resolutions, just a matriculation out of a system geared towards churning out the tough boy, a Kiplinguesque person, a gentleman with a rough-and-ready attitude naturally inclined to a physically active life of adventure. Frederick, the son of a Vietnam war veteran and the grandson of a veteran of World War II and the Spanish Civil War, entered a world of further traumatic abuse as an apprentice chef in the civilian world and the military. The author went through a phase of heavy drinking and drug abuse.

Given everything that has happened to him, the author was, and still is, an average Aussie kid by choice and by genetic inclination: he likes explosions, fire, and guns which is probably typical of someone who came from soldier/pioneer stock. Although unsaid, he is a natural product of Australian social evolution. Australians went from being misunderstood (and abused) underdogs to becoming a proud people with a unique sense of identity and a pride of place. The author, after coming out of the ADF and a long experience of abuse, with the can-do, never-say-never attitude typical of Australians, enrolled himself in University (while still holding down a job as chef) despite his having been told that University was something out of his reach and effected the turnaround from bad to better.

Here is a biography that typifies many things Australian. The authors very welcome auteur shall keep that independent pioneer spirit of the Outback working towards Australias coming of age as he has written a clear, unashamed, and highly effective narrative of his man-making process.
